A People-First Economy
I am a worker. I am a barback, a CCSD substitute, and a full-time organizer and assembly candidate. I have credit card debt and student loans to pay off. I know what it’s like to hustle and feel like you’re barely making a dent. In this economy, those who have housing, employment, and healthcare are struggling to keep it. For young people like me just starting out, we are struggling to ever have it in the first place. Frankly, we are at a breaking point. People are tired; they’re angry. The question is: what are we, as everyday people, going to do about it?
2020 was defined by Joe Biden as a “fight for the soul of our nation.” I think 2026 has to be a fight for the soul of the Democratic party. We’ve lost our New Deal roots and the party’s ability to cobble together a winning coalition dwindles with each passing cycle. We need to inspire and empower a new generation of voters before it's too late.
As an extremely working class state, we owe our voters an agenda that can materially change their lives. As a presidential battleground state, we owe it to the country to have a strong party that leads Democratic conversation. We cannot be a party led by fear. To paraphrase Elizabeth Warren’s famous 2020 presidential debate quote, I am tired of being told what we can’t win and what we shouldn’t fight for. It’s time to stand firm in our convictions and begin a new chapter, starting with a robust economic platform.

I joined the Bernie 2020 campaign fresh out of high school because I believed that we could radically change our country for the better. I still believe we can.
